Top 3 Harbours in Croatia You Must See Once in Your Life

2026.07.27.

Discover three of Croatia’s most beautiful harbours, complete with unmissable beaches, restaurants and sights for every boating enthusiast.

Rovinj, Hvar and Korčula – Three of Croatia’s most beautiful harbours

Croatia is one of the Adriatic’s most popular boating destinations, where crystal-clear water, charming harbour towns and hidden bays make every journey special. Some places are more than simply beautiful. They are true bucket-list destinations. These are the harbours where arriving is an experience in itself, and where the atmosphere of the town, the beaches, restaurants and nearby attractions combine to make the trip unforgettable.

Rovinj – The pearl of Istria

Rovinj can be recognised from afar by the tower of the Church of St Euphemia rising above the hill and the colourful houses of the old town. As you sail into the harbour, it immediately becomes clear why it is considered one of Croatia’s most beautiful towns. Its cobbled streets, charming little squares and seaside promenade create an unmistakably Mediterranean atmosphere.

It is worth walking up to the Church of St Euphemia, where you can enjoy a beautiful panoramic view of the entire town and harbour. Mulini Beach and the quieter Lone Bay are excellent choices for swimming. When you get hungry, Balbi Restaurant is a great place for dinner, with homemade Istrian pasta with truffles among its most popular dishes. When you still have some time, sail to the nearby Lim Fjord, whose remarkable natural scenery never fails to impress.

Hvar – The capital of the Mediterranean lifestyle

The name Hvar is almost inseparable from sailing on the Adriatic. During summer, the harbour fills with sailing boats and yachts, while the waterfront promenade remains lively from morning until late at night. Despite its popularity, the town has managed to preserve the Mediterranean atmosphere that keeps boaters coming back time after time.

The Spanish Fortress, also known as Fortica or Španjola, rises above the town and offers a fantastic view of the harbour and the Pakleni Islands. Dubovica Beach is one of the island’s most beautiful places for swimming, while Palmizana Bay, one of the area’s most popular anchorages, can be reached by boat in just a few minutes. For dinner, visit Dalmatino Restaurant, where grilled octopus is considered a true local classic.

Korčula – The little Dubrovnik

Korčula’s old town feels like a journey back in time. Its medieval walls, narrow streets and atmospheric harbour have earned it a reputation as one of Croatia’s most beautiful historic towns.

St Mark’s Cathedral and the house believed to be the birthplace of Marco Polo are only a few minutes from the harbour, although simply walking through the streets of the old town is a memorable experience in itself. Pupnatska Luka Beach is unmissable for swimming, while the nearby island of Badija, with its crystal-clear water, is easily accessible by boat. Filippi Restaurant is an excellent choice for a relaxing dinner, where it is worth trying lamb peka, traditionally cooked under hot embers.

The best experience comes from the sea

These harbours are also wonderful when visited by car, but their true magic reveals itself when you arrive by boat. The sight of old towns opening up before you from the water, the lively atmosphere of the harbours and the hidden bays you can discover along the way create an experience that is difficult to compare with anything else.
